Pixie Menstrual Cup Review | Buy one, Give One
This blog was inspired in part by Pixie Cup and their buy one, get one philosophy. We created this site to provide information about sustainable eco-friendly menstrual products to help menstruating binary individuals (we are inclusive and want to respect everyone), girls, and women around the world make the switch.
The motivation for this was the realization that many people around the world do not have access to menstrual products. They are experiencing period poverty, which to us is inhumane. Why should anyone suffer because of a natural process that our bodies are designed to do?

Pixie Cup Review
Unboxing Pixie Cup
So you’ve purchased your Pixie Cup and now it is time to get down to business.
When you unbox your brand new Pixie Cup you will find:
- Instructions
- Storage Bag
- Travel Wipes (5)
- Sticker
- Menstrual Cup
The first thing you will notice is there is they fit a lot of stuff in a small box. It just proves great things can come in small packages (this may be my short complex talking). I am somewhat of a stickler for packing, as I believe a lot of unnecessary plastic does not need to be included with your menstrual cup. If you have to boil the cup before the first use, why bother with the plastic?
In my opinion, the best thing about Pixie Cup is the inclusion of travel wipes for cleaning your menstrual cup on the go. The travel wipes are great for cleaning your cup if you have to empty it in a public restroom. I am somewhat of a “collector”, so the sticker was a nice touch as a memento. Since we have so many menstrual cups I try to sterilize and give them away after our review, unless I absolutely love it.
Pixie Cup Review Stats | Sizes and Model
We all know the first thing you have to determine is the best menstrual cup size for you. Everyone will be different depending on their cervix, activity, flow, and lifestyle. That’s what makes us all uniquely amazing, our differences. This Pixie Cup review is based on the use of the Large size, we do not have the Luxe at this time but hope to use it in the future to expand our review.
Pixie Cup Small
- Total Cup Length – 2.52″ (64 mm)
- Cup Diameter – 1.68″ (42 mm)
- Cup Length – 1.90″ (48 mm)
- Stem Length – 0.62″ (15 mm)
- Capacity to Rim – 25 ml
- Cup Firmness – Medium
The Pixie Cup (Small) is for beginners such as teens, women under 30, high cervix, have not given birth vaginally, or light to medium flow. If you are considering using a cup for the first time this may be a good starting point.
Pixie Cup Large
- Total Cup Length – 2.68″ (68 mm)
- Cup Diameter – 1.81″ (46 mm)
- Cup Length – 2.00″ (50 mm)
- Stem Length – 0.68″ (17 mm)
- Capacity to Rim – 30 ml
- Cup Firmness – Medium
I used the Pixie Cup (Large) for my review because I am over 30, have a heavy flow, have given birth, and have an average cervix height. Based on all of these factors I determined the large was the best size for me. We did get the combo pack so the small was available if needed, but I did not try it since I assumed there would be leaks.

Pixie Cup X-Large
- Total Cup Length – 2.78″ (71 mm)

- Cup Length – 2.10″ (53 mm)
- Stem Length – 0.68″ (17 mm)
- Capacity to Rim – 35 ml
- Cup Firmness – Medium
The Pixie Cup (X-Large) is designed to help you get through your day without interruptions. Very heavy bleeders will be revealed by the amount of time they will get back by using this menstrual cup. Can you imagine not having to run to the bathroom to change your tampon or pad every 1-3 hours? What are you going to do with all that saved time?
Pixie Cup Luxe
The Pixie Cup Luxe is another menstrual cup design from Pixie Cup, that offers a softer firmness and shorter design to be used with a low cervix. The major difference is how narrower it is compared to the original model, making it perfect for shorter or narrow vaginal canals.
Pixie Cup Small Luxe
- Total Cup Length – 2.50″ (64 mm)
- Cup Diameter – 1.57″ (40 mm)
- Cup Length – 2.00″ (50 mm)
- Stem Length – 0.5″ (13 mm)
- Capacity to Rim – 20 ml
- Cup Firmness – Soft
The Pixie Cup Luxe (Small) is for anyone under the age of 30, have not given birth vaginally, light to medium flow, or has a low cervix. It is short enough to be comfortable with a short cervix, but long enough to offer protection throughout your cycle.
Pixie Cup Large Luxe
- Total Cup Length – 3.00″ (76 mm)
- Cup Diameter – 1.77″ (45 mm)
- Cup Length – 2.50″ (50 mm)
- Stem Length – 0.5″ (13 mm)
- Capacity to Rim – 25 ml
- Cup Firmness – Soft
The Pixie Cup Luxe (Large) is for anyone over the age of 30, given birth vaginally, heavy flow, or has a low cervix. It is long enough to give you the protection you need, but more narrow to make it easier to insert and remove.

Pixie Cup: Pros and Cons
Pixie Cup: Pros
- Travel Wipes – The travel wipes are so helpful, especially if you are busy and on the move.
- Affordability – Finding a menstrual cup can be an expensive process, in the beginning. This cup is an affordable option for anyone looking to make the switch. Most cups are $25 – $50, but this one is available for $20. (Use this code to save an additional 15% MYECOFLOW15)
- Ball Stem – I find the ball stem more comfortable and easier to locate. It reduces the chances of having that pocking feeling you get from other stems.
- Customer Service – If you have any questions or concerns, customer service is amazing. They are quick and willing to answer your questions, to help you find your perfect fit.
- Satisfaction Guarantee – The satisfaction guarantee makes it easy to try their menstrual cup risk-free. This is perfect for beginners trying to figure out the best cup for their people.
- Easy to Remove – The ridges on the bottom of the cup make it easy to locate and squeeze to remove the suction. This makes it a lot easier to remove than other cups without ridges to grip.
Pixie Cup: Cons
- Firmness – I am a fan of soft cups, I think they are a lot easier to fold and insert. I would have like for this cup to be a little firmer, but it wasn’t a problem for me.
- Cleaning – There is printing inside of the cup, which can make it more difficult to deep clean. To deep clean your menstrual cup you may need to use a toothbrush to get all the little nooks and crannies.
Honestly, it was difficult to find cons for this Pixie Cup review. I didn’t have any problems using the cup with the exception of user-error (see below). This menstrual cup did its job, keeping my clothes and sheets clean and allowed me to have a worry-free period.
Who should use the Pixie Cup?
One of my favorite things about the Pixie Cup is its affordability. You do not have to go broke finding your goldilocks cup. They have a model that can fit your cervix, boy, flow, and lifestyle at a very reasonable price.
If you are a beginner and want to try out a menstrual cup risk-free their satisfaction guarantee will help put your mind at ease while looking for your perfect cup.
If you are a heavy bleeder with a lot of clots the extra-large Pixie Cup has you covered. You will not have to constantly run to the bathroom to change your tampon or pad every 2-3 hours. The chart above will help you find the best model for your perfect fit.
Pixie Cup Overall Experience
Cycle #1
My first cycle using Pixie Cup was successful and I did not experience any leaks. I used the punch-down fold to insert the cup and could feel it suction without being painful.
I emptied the cup after 8 hours to get an idea of how much I actually bleed. The cup was 70% full, which means I could have gone another 2-3 hours without having to empty it. This is coming from a woman that has to change her super plus tampons every 2 -3 hours.
Cycle #2
The second cycle was when the problems started. This time I decided to try a different fold to insert the cup. I opted for the c-fold instead of the punch-down fold, which usually works best for me.
After 10 hours, I went to empty the cup before bed and noticed some leaking. Luckily, I use backup protection when trying different cups to avoid making a mess everywhere. There was some blood on my cloth pad.
I didn’t realize that the menstrual cup did not completely pop open like it did the first day. I am sure this was my fault since I used a different fold and did not check that is was sealed. After dumping the blood and rinsing the cup I inserted it with the punch-down fold and didn’t have any problems for the remainder of my cycle.
Overall, I think Pixie Cup is a solid affordable menstrual cup for beginners and experienced cup users alike. I was able to insert it with no problems and didn’t feel it throughout the day. It was soft and comfortable and I slept through the night with no leaks or bloody sheets.
Refund Policy
You will notice when you unbox your Pixie Cup that there is a 100% satisfaction guarantee, which means if you are unhappy with your Pixie Cup you can return it for a full refund. This is one of the great things about this company, they understand that everything is not for everyone.
Instead of being stuck with a menstrual cup, you cannot use you can return it and buy another menstrual cup that will suit your needs. Why not give Pixie Cup a try, what do you have to lose?
